About UsSouthern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. (SoCo Rescue) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abused, abandoned, and unwanted companion animals. Our StoryFounded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, SoCo Rescue began by caring for pets left behind when soldiers from Ft. Stewart’s 3rd Infantry Division deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, we relocated to Glenwood, GA, and in 2018 purchased our current property in Tarrytown, GA. Here in rural Georgia, where there are no animal control services or shelters, countless dogs and puppies are abandoned every day. SoCo Rescue exists to fill this critical gap, providing safety, medical care, and hope for animals with nowhere else to turn. Our ProcessEvery animal that comes through our doors receives:
SoCo Rescue is proudly no-kill and only euthanizes in cases of untreatable suffering or truly dangerous aggression. Freedom Rides to New Jersey & AdoptionsOnce a month, our “Freedom Ride” transport bus leaves Tarrytown, GA, bringing adoptable dogs to New Jersey. We host adoption events at Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ, and Dogs & Cats Rule in Pennington, NJ, where pre-approved adopters meet their new best friends. Watching a dog step off the bus and into the arms of their forever family is the heart of everything we do. Our Impact in Georgia and New JerseyFor nearly 15 years, SoCo has connected Georgia’s homeless dogs with families across Central New Jersey. With close to a thousand adopted dogs now thriving in Hunterdon, Mercer, and surrounding counties—including Ringoes, Pennington, Hopewell, Flemington, Frenchtown, and Lambertville—our community of fosters and adopters makes happy endings possible every single day. Beyond RescueSoCo Rescue is more than adoptions. Through community outreach, we work to raise awareness about the plight of homeless animals and the importance of spaying, neutering, and heartworm prevention.
