UPDATE: For the past 3 weeks, Thelma has been in a foster home. Her foster mom gives the following report:

Thelma had very little problem in adjusting to a new home. Within a day's time, she was very comfortable in her new surroundings. She has gotten along great with her foster's other dogs, she'll bark at the cat but doesn't try to harm it. Her house training has gone well with Thelma even using a pee pad when she can't get outdoors.

******************************************************************************

This beautiful little girl is Thelma, a 2 year old Chihuahua who is as sweet as sugar. With eyes that match her brown coloring, Thelma is definitely one that will capture the hearts of small dog lovers.

Thelma's former owner had asked if we could take her and another Chihuahua into our rescue. Both dogs looked to be very malnourished and lacking in basic care. Packed to the limit at the time, we had to sadly ask that the owner wait a week or so until space opened up. But the owner simply threw the two girls into a staff member's arms and left, not even caring if we had the space or ability to care for two more dogs. This lack of concern was most likely why Thelma's counterpart was so sickly that she passed away a few days later.

But Thelma has flourished and is now back to full health. She's been fully vetted, tested heart worm free and has been kept on a monthly heart worm and flea preventative since coming to SoCo Rescue. She's a timid girl, getting along great with all dogs and people of all ages and isn't hyper or noisey as a typical Chihuahua. The ideal home for Thelma would be one without very young children as she does scare easy when around loud noises. She also did very well with her cat test and would coexist with all just fine. She may need more house training but is accustomed to the use of a crate.
