In early August 2025, SoCo Rescue was contacted by the Wheeler Co., GA Sheriff's Department and asked to assist in the removal of a number of puppies and dogs after their owners had been arrested for animal abuse/neglect charges. Once he arrived at the scene, Scott Bennett met with both deputies and officers from the GA Dept of Agriculture. Among the number of dogs living in horrible conditions, there were also "approximately 50 chickens" inside the small single-wide mobile home. SoCo Rescue was able to assist by taking in five young pups, two older pups and the mom to the younger litter.

When we first met Lenny, he was hooked to a tether that was wrapped around a tree ad greatly limiting him mobility. There was no dog house or other shelter available. He was also missing almost all of his fur, which was most likely caused by flea infestation. Despite the inhumane care that he suffered, Lenny has remained extremely playful, friendly and happy. He gets along great with other dogs and loves to play with them. He's a fast learner and doesn't shy away from new things or people.

Lenny has now been neutered, received an update on all of his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. While he is accustomed to staying in a crate, he will need additional house training. He does enjoy his time outside and a home that allows him plenty of time and space will be best.
